Are you leaving school and not going onto work, further education or training? Wondering what to do next? You could go along to your local Community Learning & Employability Hub to learn something new!
Skye went to her local hub straight after leaving school with little confidence and previous attendance at school was poor.
Despite dealing with various barriers recognised at school, she committed herself fully to an individual programme and went on to gain a range of qualifications:
SQA Communications, Numeracy and Working with others
World of Work
Emergency First Aid
Health and Safety in the Work Place
Youth Achievement Award
John Muir Award
Skye also took part in a range of confidence-building workshops including a media workshop, a team-building day and outdoor learning. She then moved onto a Modern Apprentice with North Lanarkshire Council from the hub. Her apprenticeship lasted two years and without the work she did in the hub this next step would not have been possible.
Skye says: “Going to my local hub really helped me gain a lot of confidence. I learned to be responsible for myself, get motivated and into a routine where I felt ready for work. I gained skills in making a CV and applying for jobs. The hubs helped me a lot and was a great starting point for me leaving school, not knowing what I was going to do.”
